We had a fun and educational experience at Loraas Recycling yesterday.  Please ask your children to tell you what they learned and enjoyed.  Thanks to Lexie's dad for joining us.  Read below to see a blog post from our student reporter Brielle.
Today we went to Loraas Recycling. Our tour guide was very passionate about recycling and told us a lot. We learned what to put in and what not to put in the blue bins, like cardboard and bottles. We all got a magnet with more details of what to put in the blue bins too. He talked about how we take part in recycling and how it's all done. First it's picked up from the street and brought to Loraas Recycling. Then they do pre-sort which is when they sort shredded paper, glass, and anything dangerous. We also got to play a virtual game where you could sort recycling like an employee would. Then after pre-sort they collect all the rest with machines which sort it. After all this, the sorted pieces go into a marketable bale and it gets sold. Then we got to see it all happen. We went in groups of 5 and got to see them pre-sort. That was personally my favourite part of the field trip. We also got to see the machine pick up plastic. Loraas picks up a lot of recycling and it's better for the planet. So if we all recycle more things, the earth will be a better place. Here is something the Bible says about not being wasteful:
"And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” -John 6:12
