Today at Eagle Creek we learned about Ecosystems which we are currently studying in science. We learned about Black Knot Fungus, and how it absorbs the nutrients from the tree. We also saw many beaver slides. There was a Bank Beaver house and a dam. While we climbed up a hill, we learned about how Pocket Gofers could keep up to a thousand seeds in their cheeks. Later on, we took a hike to see a tee pee ring that could fit up to 13 people. We got to see and learn about a buffalo jump used by First Nations. We got to learn about lichens and moss and how they have a mutually beneficial relationship. When there is moss and lichens it means that the air is healthy. We got to learn about many different plants that could tell you if you had a good growing season. Later on, we had a chance to learn how wasp's make their nest. We got to learn about how the golden rod fly had placed their babies onto the stick. It would grow a hollowed sphere.
During lunch
we had a campfire and had the chance to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. We also
had some time to play a few games of Man Tracker.
After lunch
we had the rest of the day to catch macro invertebrates in the creek. We
all had fun looking at the different creatures that we found. We had
so much fun on this trip. We will never forget it.
A big thanks
to Mrs. Cuthbert, Mrs. Das, and Mrs. Serke for joining us.
